Conveying Technology and Design Methods

The “Conveyor Technology and Design Methods” team deals with research and development tasks in the various areas of conveyor technology and develops innovative solutions and well-founded analyses.

One focus is on continuous conveyor systems for the transport of bulk materials. The team develops new types of conveyor systems and optimizes and evaluates existing systems and concepts in order to increase efficiency and functionality. Another focus of the team is the development of monitoring systems - especially for belt conveyors.

Simulations and component calculations are used to analyze both static and dynamic properties of components, assemblies and processes. With the help of bulk material simulations, in which the “Discrete Element Method” (DEM) is used, conveyor processes and systems are simulated and optimized for a smooth process flow. The determination of bulk material parameters is essential in order to enable realistic simulations.

The investigation and optimization of wear and friction of conveyor components are also part of the tasks, with targeted measures being developed to extend the service life and improve performance.

The expertise in handling technology lies in the development and evaluation of handling systems with the aim of efficiently moving and storing both bulk and unit loads.

The team realizes the development of new concepts and studies from the first draft to prototype construction in order to bring innovative solutions in conveyor technology and mechanical engineering in general to market maturity. Our laboratory and workshop equipment, such as a 5-axis CNC milling machine, make it possible to complete the tasks at hand.

The team also has an individually adjustable conveyor circuit, consisting of four belt conveyors, which enables new developments to be tested under realistic conditions in the laboratory.
